Police Surround Mass Shooting Suspect in California

The gunman opened fire at a local dance studio at around 10:22 PM on Saturday, which is located near the Monterey Park Lunar New Year Festival is usually held. On Sunday police were reported to be in a stand-off with the person they suspect was responsible for killing 10 people in a mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, including five men and five women. Aerial footage showed a white transit van cornered by two SWAT vehicles as a number of police cars were stations nearby in Torrance, just south of Los Angeles. A 67-year-old eyewitness reportedly saw a drone fly near the van as well as police commanded the vehicle’s occupant to roll down the window or open the door. A bomb squad vehicle also arrived on the scene of the stand-off as police expand the safety perimeters of the scene. While police are unsure of the gunman’s motives, they published a photo of their suspect. The suspect, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, he is an Asian man between 30 and 50-years-old. Who was seen wearing a knit hat and glasses. Police believe the gunman went to a second dance hall in the neighboring city of Alhambra, but people there were able to forcibly take the weapon way from him and he fled the scene. About 65% of the population in Monterey Park is Asian American.
