North Korea Reportedly Launches Two Short-Range Ballistic Missiles From Pyongyang

A DPRK railway-borne ballistic missile is launched in a January 14, 2022, test in western North KoreaThe missile launches come ahead of US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit to Seoul, which is scheduled for Thursday.North Korea fired “two short-range ballistic missiles from Pyongyang,” South Korean news agency Yonhap said on Wednesday, citing the national military.The launches were made from the Sunan district, where the Pyongyang airport is located, the news agency said, adding that they were recorded by the South Korean military from 18:10 to 18:20 local time (09:10-09:20 GMT).Earlier in the day, the news agency reported that a ballistic missile was launched by North Korea toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan), citing South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).The office of the Japanese Prime Minister also confirmed the launch, without providing any immediate details. Later, the maritime security service, citing the Japanese Defense Ministry, confirmed that the missile had fallen.The launches come in the wake of the Thursday visit to Seoul by US Vice President Kamala Harris, who is currently in Tokyo. North Korea has not immediately commented on the situation.
